ABOUT

Designing & sharing the launch of the Netherlands’ first public charging station

When Eneco set out to launch the NRGSPOT, the first public charging station for electric vehicles in The Netherlands, it was a real first: a new product for a new way of getting around. The launch needed to feel clear, modern and easy to understand for people who had never charged a car in public before.

From 2008 to 2011, in close cooperation with Studio Mango, I worked on the NRGSPOT launch. I designed the interfaces for apps and screens, making sure that using the charging station felt simple and intuitive. Alongside the UX work, I created the flyers, posters and the OV-chipkaart used with the charging station. I also photographed the press events and product launches, so the story of this Dutch first was captured from the first reveal onwards.

It was exciting to help shape both the look and the user experience of something brand new, at the very start of the electric mobility movement in The Netherlands.
